Google adds Search-built information agents and Gemini Spark

Historical record This story connects to a documented entry in the Agentic History timeline. The move toward connected tools and agent ecosystems builds on the tool-connection wave accelerated by MCP-style integrations.

Google introduced an updated Search experience with new AI capabilities at Google I/O, including the ability to create search-based agents and “information agents” that continuously monitor the web and alert users about updates.

Google also introduced Gemini Spark, which it described as a personal agent that can perform tasks on a user’s behalf. Google said Gemini Spark includes app connections and permission prompts before high-stakes actions such as sending emails or spending money.

Google said the update includes conversational follow-ups that move from AI Overviews into an AI Mode chat experience.
